400 RALLY and MARCH on AEROJET
The Jonesborough protest brought 400 anti-war/anti-DU rally goers, plus 10 speakers, including 2 which had not been planned but who were wonderful anyway. Father John Rausch and a representative of America's Indigenous People blessed our gathering, which was peaceful and focused on exposing the scandal of uranium weapons, ending the Iraq War, and getting our troops out of DU-contaminated battlefields of Iraq & Afghanistan.
Most of the 400 rally attendees marched. The "Giant Preamble" was carried by Veterans for Peace. About 100 carpooled to Aerojet after the march. Wes Rehberg (Chattanooga filmmaker) spoke and took photos.
Attendees were from all over -- IN, VA, CA, FL, SC, NC, KY, MI. Most of the students who participated came in from Appy State & University of Tennessee-Knoxville and many of them came with us to Aerojet after the march. Their vigorous chants -- hey, hey, ho, ho, Aerojet has got to go -- were much appreciated. Tennesseans who rallied included lots of locals -- including women with kids in strollers, and St. Mary's Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation Ministry -- and other new friends of peace from Sevierville, Nashville, and Chattanooga.
The Christian Peacemaker Teams' Stop-DU delegation are spending the rest of the week in Jonesborough working to end DU production at Aerojet.
